Forum downtime

Greetings,

Apologies for the downtime experienced this afternoon, this was due to a problem migrating the forum over to an SQL platform from it's current flat file. The upgrade did not go as planned and numerous errors were encountered.

Until further information can enable the transition to take place, we have rolled back over to our old flat file format.

Once again, please accept my apologies for these problems.

Cheers,

Michael T

Many of you, possibly won't be aware that 2009 was a special year for ado16.info. It was in fact the websites 10th anniversary...

Good, you may be thinking. Thanks for that piece of information, but what does it really mean for me? Well, truthfully, it means nothing - however, since a special achievement was not marked in anyway shape or form, I have today launched a "refreshed" front cover for the trusty site.

OK, there is a cleaner look about the page, but what about the new features?

o Facebook group
o Gone is the magnifying image on the front cover picture - just click the image, and you'll get a new way of viewing the larger image.
o New banner, simplified - yet iconic?
o Main page content reshuffled.

There's also been a lot of work undertaken behind the scenes to the coding of the site. Overall, I want you to have the site load quicker than it has ever done before, and provide you with a top notch experience.

Of course, this look now has to be carried across all the pages - but, here's where I need your help... where do I start? Suggestions please!

Take a look, and please as ever, be honest. I need you to tell me what your thoughts are on the layout, what you like, dislike etc.

Cheers,

Michael T

P.S. A belated Happy Birthday ado16.info!

Hello All,

It's been a while since I've posted but I thought I'd keep you up to date with the latest behind the scenes actions.

Unused account clean up: Some 100 unused accounts have been cleaned up in the current program. This key clean up ensures that we reduce the possibility of dormant accounts behind hacked and used without the owners consent. An FAQ topic addressing steps needing to be taken to reactivate a closed account has been created.

To further support our recent security upgrades, it has been decided that all new accounts must be validated. To do this, all new members must click a link which they will receive via email. If this validation is not completed, accounts will remain dormant and will be removed after a period of 31 days.

Enhancements have been made to our Forum Supporter payment service to ensure that payments can easily be reconciled to a forum member.

As further progress is made I shall of course keep you posted.

Cheers,

Michael T

Urgent: Server attack

Over the weekend it has transpired that our server hosting the site has been attacked and some malicious files have been uploaded. These have been today removed from the server, but if you are asked to enter any information on other parts of the site (where you previously would not have done so), then please contact me so I can investigate.

What has been done to enhance security?

Passwords have been encrypted to a higher level - you may need to request a password reset if you are unable to login. This is normal under the circumstances.

A stricter "session" based service has been installed. You specify a certain amount of time you wish the system to remember your login information. It will then re-prompt you to enter your details after that time period. It is strongly recommended you select 6 or 24 hours only.

Finally, ensure at all times on the web you only enter Credit/Debit card information in a secure environment... i.e. that websites are secure (begin https://) and display the padlock symbol.

If you have any other questions, or concern's please post them on this thread.

Regards,

Michael T

Major member clean up

As part of the drive to move the forum board over to new a package it is necessary to clean up the member list.

At present, any member who has been inactive prior to 2008 will be removed as part of the clean up process. This will also include "duplicate" member records. There are some isolated instances of this.

In the meantime you should expect no change to the service provided.

Cheers,

Michael T
